Noise carries very clearly though the airbricks separating the rooms in the dorms and snoring carries particularly well. As it is a silent retreat, talking with a neighbour who has a problem with snoring is not really appropriate. It can be considerate to talk to your neighbours before the silence begins if you think you will be a problem for them. Many people just bang on the wall until their neighbour wakes up or rolls over. Earplugs could be worn, but hearing the morning wake-up bell might be a problem. Though one of the friends will bang on your door at 4:15am if you have not appeared by then. Snoring can be a great source of potential anger and therefore a great test of mindfulness. If you do have a problem with other people snoring, the retreat is a great opportunity to learn to deal with it.
